

Biography
Margaret O. Darby brings over two decades of public finance and municipal law experience to her private sector practice. Her extensive background includes facility financing transactions, economic development matters, and comprehensive representation of government agencies across a wide spectrum of legal issues.
Throughout her career in public service, Margaret provided strategic legal counsel to numerous Metropolitan Nashville departments and agencies, including the Finance Department, Office of the Trustee, Property Assessor, Treasury Office, and the Benefit Board Investment Committee. She developed particular expertise in economic development matters through her work with the Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development, the Industrial Development Board, and the Metropolitan Sports Authority.
Margaret's public finance credentials include serving as Bond Issuer's Counsel for both the Metropolitan Government and the Sports Authority in significant facility financing transactions. This experience positioned her at the forefront of complex public-private partnership structures and municipal bond transactions.
Margaret's litigation experience includes representing governmental clients in administrative property tax assessment cases before both the Metro and Tennessee Boards of Equalization, as well as prosecuting Metro's delinquent property tax litigation.
Most recently, Margaret served as Director & Special Counsel for Nashville’s Metropolitan Council, where she provided high-level legal guidance on legislative and policy matters.
Margaret earned her Juris Doctor and a Master of Studies in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School in 2000, where she was the president of the Student Bar Association, a member of the Honor Council, and a founding member of the Women’s Rugby Club.
She is an active member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Nashville Bar Association and the Nashville Bar Foundation. Margaret has also served on the executive boards of the Tennessee Association of Property Tax Professionals and Friends of Shelby Park. A native Tennessean, Margaret was born in Memphis and raised in Chattanooga before making Nashville her home.
